more of the white stuff.

this is a beautiful tree....obviously

this is a lens for my camera-you could kinda see the reflection of the trees in it, except the trees were ORANGE!!

i was so psyched. my camera captured the sparkles in the snow!!

the view out our back door. but this picture is a little deceiving. the snow is not actually this high. we shoveled the roof and this is the pile-up. we made a tunnel through it. oh, yeah.

snow.

we've got to have at least 2 feet of it.
i don't think i've ever seen so much snow in my life.
i'm not sure if i like it or not.
it is beautiful, though.
you can't argue with that.
i'll post some pictures later.

The Saving One

vs. 1
   What mercy was revealed
   What selflessness and peace
   My fate was surely sealed
   Until He rescued me
   His pardon for my sin
   His bounty for my need
   From slavery and shame
   I am redeemed

Chorus
  And Heaven can't contain
  The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
  The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

vs. 2
No fear can hold me down
  Nor darkness steal my joy
For blood has been poured out
  The enemy destroyed
Death could not hold Him down
  The cross was not enough
  To steal away His throne
  For He is God

Chorus
  And Heaven can't contain
  The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
  The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

Bridge
Anyone who calls upon His name
  They will be saved
  They will be saved
Anyone who calls upon His name
  They will be saved
  They will be saved

[untitled]

I feel myself slipping
I can’t grasp what I’m gripping-
Hold me tight.
I want nothing more than to know you
I can’t seem to see you-
Fill my gaze.

Amazing Love-a drabble of 100 words

People are screaming, cursing, jeering. They cast lots for his clothes and disdain his very existence. He hangs, a man so tortured that his humanity is not recognizable. He hangs, nails beaten through the flesh of his hands and feet. He hangs, thorns as long as his fingers piercing his brow. He hangs, the splinters in the rough wood of the cross like fire to his raw back. He hangs between life and death. He gasps for breath and yells with dying strength, “It is finished!”
There is Silence.
Behold your king, who bears the sins of the world.

Silence-a drabble of 100 words

Silence. All she had ever known was silence. Silence accompanied the flashing fire truck speeding down the street, silence accompanied the airplanes flying over her house, silence accompanied the birthday parties of her friends, silence accompanied the fireworks celebrating the fourth of July, silence accompanied the dark storms that rained down in summer, silence accompanied the waves crashing on the shore, and silence accompanied the faces of her family. All she wanted to hear were the words “I love you,” for as long as she could remember she had yearned to know those words. And she was only six.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

ok. so, i thought i should say something brilliant about the new year coming and how twenty ten was a good year and maybe tell you all my new year's resolutions.
the only problem is i have nothing brilliant to say and i have no new year's resolutions.
how 'bout that for exciting.
well, actually i could make up some things to say. would you like that? you'd like that very much? i thought so. (hahah! classic cleache' (that's supposed to say cliche only i spelled it wrong-please bare [or is it bear?] with me...i don't have much training in spelling French) ok, here goes nothin':

new year's resolution #1-spend more time with family and friends
new year's resolution #2-get fit
new year's resolution #3-"tame the bulge"
new year's resolution #4-quit smoking
new year's resolution #5-enjoy life more
new year's resolution #6-world peace
new year's resolution #7-get out of debt!
new year's resolution #8-learn something new
new year's resolution #9-help others
new year's resolution #10-get oranized

those aren't actually my new year's resolutions (although some of them aren't bad)...i just looked up "most common new year's resolutions" and that's what came up...except #6, that's my own creation.

and that's my brilliant post! have a good new year's eve, new year's day, new year and life!!

this is SJ-signing out!

clementine seeds

I think the clementine people enjoy tricking us, their loyal, unsuspecting customers. They look all innocent, packaging their bright orange spheres of delicious juicyness in little wood boxes with mesh tops or little holey bags, but no, they are out to get us! By labeling their fruits as "seedless" they are simply trying to brainwash us all into the belief that their clementines are without the nasty, crunchy seeds that are bound to ruin a perfectly scrumptious snack. They are not seedless! How can they, after all, be sure that their clementines are with out seeds?! There is no x-ray machine that they process their clementines through to make sure that they are perfectly with out seeds. There is no way of pinching or feeling them to make sure that there are no seeds contaminating the juicey goodness. There is NO way of knowing whether or not the clementines are in fact SEEDLESS!!!! How could they label their clementines "seedless" if they are not positive?! And yet, how could we, the loyal consumers of such refreshing fruit, be so naive to believe that the clementines are perfect and with out seed. How could we, the eaters of the scrumptious snack, the tasters of the orange spheres, the slurpers of such refreshing juice that so tastefully squirts from the orange wedges of splendor, how could we be so gullible, so ignorant to believe such claims?! The next time you excitedly reach for a clementine do not be surprised if, as you enjoy the savory flavor of a juicy wedge, you crunch on a nasty, seed. Together, we can ruin the clementine producers fun by expecting the inevitable and not believing their "seedless" claim.

(disclaimer: I don't actually know if anyone markets their clementines as seedless...it just sounded good...but I have fallen victim to the disappointment of biting into a clementine and finding it infested with a big ugly seed....)

O Holy Night

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! O hear the angels' voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here come the wise men from Orient land.
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.

He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King, Before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.

(I read these lyrics recently and realized that I really liked them. It's so easy to just sing the words of familiar songs without thinking about them and noticing how masterfully they are put together. Don't miss the beautiful poetry of this song.)

beat of life

 the dribble is my
heartbeat
the bounce pass
and it skips a thump

the swish is my
bloodflow
the rebound
and it rushes

the layup is my
breathintake
the leap
and I hold my exhale.

Heartbeat. Bloodflow. Breath. Life.

for the love of the game.

the pain in my
heart
is from
suicides-
I hate suicides.

the jelly in my
legs
is from
suicides-
I hate suicides.

the pounding in my
ears
is from
suicides-
I hate suicides.

but I'll do them anyway.

and he delights in me

I am just a falling flower,
like grass that withers,
a wave tossed upon the sea or
a breath upon the wind.

and yet

“I am burning with jealousy for her”
he wants me.

“I am very jealous for her”
he wants me.

“I will be faithful and righteous to her as her God”
he wants me.

“I will bring her back”
he wants me.

“So I will save you”
he wants me.
he is with me.

(quotations from Zechariah 4)

Zechariah 9:9-17

9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
   Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!

See, your king comes to you,
   righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
   and the warhorses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
11 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.
12 Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope;
even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.
13 I will bend Judah as I bend my bow
   and fill it with Ephraim.
I will rouse your sons, Zion,
   against your sons, Greece,
and make you like a warrior’s sword.
 14 Then the LORD will appear over them;
his arrow will flash like lightning.
The Sovereign LORD will sound the trumpet;
he will march in the storms of the south,
15 and the LORD Almighty will shield them.
They will destroy
   and overcome with slingstones.
They will drink and roar as with wine;
they will be full like a bowl
used for sprinkling the corners of the altar.
16 The LORD their God will save his people on that day
as a shepherd saves his flock.
They will sparkle in his land
   like jewels in a crown.
17 How attractive and beautiful they will be!
Grain will make the young men thrive,
and new wine the young women.

Psalms 23

Oh, my gosh-so cute!
