promises for my future

The other day we were at our local high school celebrating one of my oldest (and closest) friend's graduation. As we were sitting there, burning in the hot sun, the girl who placed second in her class gave a speech. One thing she said really struck me. She was talking about the future and how none of us know what it holds (true), but as she was speaking about this she added, "we have no promises for our future" and I couldn't help but think of how dismal, hopeless, and scary the future must be for her. NO idea what the future holds, no one to run to when everyone leaves, no one to bring ALL her troubles to. I am sure this high school graduate, second in her class of two-hundred eight students has much knowledge, but all the knowledge in the world could never replace the promises God has given me. He promises to never leave me or forsake me (Deuteronomy 31:5), he promises that he knows the plans he has for me-he has plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), he promises to answer me when I call him (Jeremiah 33:3), he promises to give me rest (Matthew 11:28), and he promises to come back for me. All I need to do is call to him-come to him. I wouldn't trade these promises for all the knowledge in the world.

Shades of White

I decided yesterday that i like having one little something that i do each day (like drabdaymomay), so this month i am going to take a picture every day with the theme of "shades of white" (or at least, it's starting out as a monthly theme, i might make it a weekly theme...).
So, without further ado, here are my first four pictures:
fence post (6.1.11)

fence (6.2.11)

broken door (6.3.11)

curtain (6.4.11)
(riveting captions-i know. :) They really are all mostly white, but I made them black and white so the focus was on the white...until next time!!

happy day!

we've had rain and more rain. it's may 19th and we're still in jeans and sweatshirts. but there was at least a portion of today that wasn't raining and, because i finished school early i went outside. I swung and listened to a distant thunderstorm roll in....and took pictures. And then I almost died. I was preoccupied with my camera which was strapped around my shoulder and sitting in my lap as I swung (and I wasn't holding on) then when I went to grab hold of the ropes again, I missed but had already started leaning backwards to pump and I almost fell off and died. But I didn't. So that was my afternoon. Here's some pictures of it:

what are words

I love this song. part of what makes it so amazing is the story behind it.
Chris Medina, a contestant on American Idol, was engaged to his girlfriend. But two months before their wedding his girl was in a very bad car crash and received severe brain damage and was partially paralyzed. He decided to stay with her and take care of her. This song is about how he is keeping his promise to her. (here is a link to read the full story)
You can watch the song here (because I can't figure out how to get the video in here).
These are the lyrics:

"What are Words" Chris Medina
Anywhere you are, I am near
Anywhere you go, I'll be there
Anytime you whisper my name, you'll see
How every single promise I keep
Cuz what kind of guy would I be
If I was to leave when you need me most

What are words
If you really don't mean them
When you say them
What are words
If they're only for good times
Then they don't
When it's love
Yeah, you say them out loud
Those words, They never go away
They live on, even when we're gone

And I know an angel was sent just for me
And I know I'm meant to be where I am
And I'm gonna be
Standing right beside her tonight

And I'm gonna be by your side
I would never leave when she needs me most

What are words
If you really don't mean them
When you say them
What are words
If they're only for good times
Then they don't
When it's love
Yeah, you say them out loud
Those words, They never go away
They live on, even when we're gone

Anywhere you are, I am near
Anywhere you go, I'll be there
And I'm gonna be here forever more
Every single promise I keep
Cuz what kind of guy would I be
If I was to leave when you need me most

I'm forever keeping my angel close

5.9.11-little something sweet

She opens the cabinet and chooses the little yellow bag- “a fat free food.” It crackles in her hand as she skips to the table. Pulling out the chair, she whistles a happy little tune and grabs the two sides of the bag, pulling until it pops open. Oh! Her mouth begins salivating, her hands twitch in anticipation. Licking her lips, she reaches in and chooses one of each-yellow, red, green and orange. The little sugar coated candies just waiting to be consumed. She pops a red into her mouth, closes her eyes and enjoys her SOUR PATCH KIDS.

joy

He is a prince
she was a commoner
but the look he gave her was the same
the same as any groom to his bride
the same look of excited adoration
the same look of awe at her beauty
as she stood by his side at the alter
as she stood by his side and promised
her heart to him
She is now a duchess
and he is her prince
but the smile on her face is the same
the same as any bride on her wedding day
the same look of excited joy
the same look of awe
as he stood by her side at the alter
as he stood by her side and promised
his heart to her
(sorry i haven't posted in awhile...i've been busy over at a drabble a day in the month of may.  [and i can't get rid of these annoying black lines])

Happy Easter!

I compiled a bunch of verses-prophesies and gospel accounts-of Jesus' birth, death and resurrection. And I thought I'd share it with you guys!

(Luke 1:30-32) “But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” (Isaiah 9:6-7) “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.” (Isaiah 53: 2&4-5a) He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities” (Luke 23: 44-46a) It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice”(Psalm 22:1&6-8&16-18) “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?” (Luke 23:46b) “When he had said this, he breathed his last.” (Luke 23: 34b-38) “And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, 'He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.' The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar and said, 'If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.' There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” (Isaiah 53:9-10) “He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.” (Luke 24:1-6a) “On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightening stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, 'Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” (Matthew 28:9) “Suddenly Jesus met them. 'Greetings,' he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.” (Isaiah 53:12b) “For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” (Psalm 22: 27-31) “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—those who cannot keep themselves alive. Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!” (2 Corinthians 5:21) “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Have a wonderful Easter everyone!

Psalm 119:30-32

I have chosen the way of truth;
I have set my heart on your laws.
I hold fast to your statutes,
O LORD; do not let me be put to shame.
I run in the path of your commands,
for you have set my heart free.

but doesn't linger there

i like the feeling of a cool evening breeze
that washes goosebumps on my skin
but doesn't linger there
i like the feeling of the breath of air
that whispers across my face
but doesn't linger there
i like the feeling of a calm little zephyr
that brushes across my feet
but doesn't linger there

i like the feeling of a day gone by
that was successful and restful
but doesn't linger there
i like the warm sun that slowly sets
that paints pink across the sky
but doesn't linger there
i like the clear moon that rises
that accompanies the stars
but doesn't linger there

my dream shoes

yes. i bought them.

they are red,

patten leather,

peep-toe

pumps.
i will probably return them-the 4 1/2 inch heels "pump" me right over the 6ft mark, the peep-toe squishes my little toes and i can hardly walk when i wear them.
but for now i am enjoying their beauty. :)
aren't they lovely?

Happy April Fools Day Everybody.

unfortunately the snow outside my window is not a joke
it is amazing how if this were november or early december
we would be outside shaking the snow off the trees
so there was more on the ground
but now that it's APRIL the snow only brings
gross disappointment.
I was expecting a little more from april first
than snow and more snow and rain
maybe all the snow will melt away tomorrow
when it wil be
50˚ and sunny

yes. we got 3-4 inches of snow last night. it's pretty and all-but i can only think of all the daffodils and the crocuses that were already in bloom.
sad day.

this is beautiful

"You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.
Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the LORD’s renown,
for an everlasting sign,
that will endure forever.”
Isaiah 55

*sigh*

the sun was shining.....
and it was snowing.
this weird new england weather
is starting to drive me
crazy.
....
i wish i could write poetry like i could
when it would roll and bump
and sing right out of me
when the sun would shine and i would write
when the time would lend itself to words
and i could hear them
and i could write them
....
but, because my time has not had time to write
here is something i wrote and like:

Standing on the shore, the breeze washing my face in salty-freshness, I gaze and imagine. If Jesus were out there walking on the deep azure water the waves rolling around his ankles, and he called my name, would I come? Would I have the faith to trust his might, to step foot atop the sea? Would I trust not in my own strength to hold me up, but in the power of the one who created me and the sea? The salty water licks my feet as I edge closer to the water. I take a breath. I trust. I step. Holding me up through the waves around me, He lovingly sustains my every move. Fearless, I run to Jesus.

(i think i already posted this-a long time ago, but i like it so here it is again...it's not a drabble-120 words.)

i actually have time to post!

I think it is a miracle-I actually have some free time-a whole hour!! Now that basketball is over I've had some more time to take pictures, so here are some random pieces of my life (all of these are unedited-except for a few that were "denoised" a bit):

a walk with my sister

seriously, i think our kitchen has the best lighting ever

a birthday party
a stunning morning-this doesn't do it justice
the rising sun was piercing the fog and it was gorgeous
yummo strawberries

And because this blog was for me to post what I write:

I was imagining the other day...

Ocean breeze wash my face in the warm afternoon air.
The cool wavy water washes through my light brown hair.
The sand between my toes,
the salty air in my nose.
The summer in the sky
and my hair is quick to dry.
With the warmth of the sun,
the day's nearly done.
I close my eyes as sleep's soft wings flutter past
and the day become a memory. (3/11/11)

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

Saturday, March 12, 2011

oh what a beautiful morning!

Oh what a beautiful morning,
Oh what a beautiful day,
I've got a wonderful feeling,
Everything's going my way.

All the sounds of the earth are like music,
All the sounds of the earth are like music,
The breeze is so busy it don't miss a tree,
And an ol' Weepin' Willer is laughin' at me.
~
here is a picture of the morning-and i only wish i could capture the breeze, the smell of the coming spring and the warmth of the sun

it doesn't really look that beautiful-the dirty snow, the leaveless trees-but the sun is shining, the snow is melting and spring is coming-looks beautiful to me.

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind

Drop they still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
take from our souls the strain and stress,
and let our ordered lives confess
they beauty of Thy peace

Breathe through the heats of our desire
they coolness and they balm;
let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm.

-John Greenleaf Whittier

this is just a portion of the poem that was in my history book

words

aren't words just the strangest things?
sounds and syllables, meanings and rhythms, consonants and vowels, communication, poetry and songs, prose and speech.
and isn't poetry the weirdest thing?
a compilation of strange words, to form a rhythm and rhyme, a reason and a melody of words. to portray a thought, a hope, a desire, a memory a concept, a love, a feeling even though sometimes the silence is louder than words.
it's a good thing some of the oddest things are the most beautiful.
i really think there are few things that are more beautiful than words-
maybe just a sunset
or
an ocean full of water
the bride on her wedding day
or
the new born baby
the clouds of a storm
or
the smile on a face
the tips of the mountains
or
the rays of sunshine
on a summer day
but maybe the words that can hardly describe these are just as beautiful

spring tease

Walking down the street, i listened-
the birds were singing
the melting snow was dribbling down the storm drains
the tires were swirshing through the slush
and it was beautiful
i felt the warm sun on my face
even though i was a little late for class
my feet had to slow a bit to enjoy the
spring tease

love this song

When Somebody Loved Me

when somebody loved me
everything was beautiful
every hour we spent together
lives within my heart

and when she was sad
i was there to dry her tears
and when she was happy so was i
when she loved me

through the summer and the fall
we had each other that was all
just she and i together like it was ment to be

and when she was lonley
i was there to comfort her
and i knew that she loved me

so the years went
by i stayed the same
but she began to drift away
i was left alone
but still i waited for the day
when she'd say i will always love you

lonley and forgotten
i never thought she'd look my way
when she smiled at me
and held me
just like she used to do
like she loved me
when she loved me

when somebody loved me
everything was beautiful
every hour we spent together
lives within my heart
when she loved me.

toy story is the best.

WARNING:to reduce the risk of burns, fire, electrocution, or injury to persons:

(my sister got a new curling iron recently. we found some of the warnings pretty amusing.)

#6. never use while sleeping. (ummm, who filed this lawsuit to get it in the "warning" section?)
#7. never drop or insert any object into any opening. (isn't this true of most things?-like ears and noses)
#9. This curling iron and clamp are hot when in use. DO NOT let eyes and bare skin touch heated surfaces. Use the handle.  (thank you, i was going to try to curl my eyelashes with this until i read this warning.)

and these are to reduce the risk of death by electric shock:
#2. DO NOT use while bathing (this would take multitasking to a new level...)
#4. DO NOT use near, place in or drop into water or other liquid. (oh! lets see what happens when i drop my curling iron in this bucket of other liquid! . . . . . who does these things?)

cramming to meet deadlines
leaving work unfinished so i can sleep
overwhelmed by work
I have created time enough for you.

Matthew 6:25-34 (adapted)

Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will finish or complete; or about your grades, what you will have for your next assignment. Is not life more than school, and the body more than knowledge? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not learn or practice or store away information, and yet your heavenly Father cares for them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about your work? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or study. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘When will I finish?’ or ‘I have too much to do’ or ‘What shall we do? 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need to finish them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

shovelling

the ice is heavy
thank you for the snow
the drive way is big
thank you for the place to hold our cars
the air is cold
thank you for the winter
the work makes me sweat
thank you for a body that can regulate its temperature
the heavy shovelfuls makes my back hurt
thank you for a strong body that can work
the shovelling takes a long time
thank you for day light and time to live

warmer days

There's hope my fellow New Enlganders!!!

there is hope for hot sand
there is hope for crashing waves
there is hope for green leaves
there is hope for fresh cut flowers
there is hope for guitars in the grass
and songs by the campfire
there is hope for tank tops
and shorts
there is hope for popsicles
and ice cream
there is hope for days unburdened by school
there is hope for 80 degrees
there is hope for summer
it's just covered in snow for now...
take heart-it will melt,
and spring will bloom again.

a different kind of music

the whisperings of the trees,
the crackling, swishing, wispy, music of the trees

the silence of the snow
the dripping, plopping, invisible music of the snow

the chattering of the ice
tapping, scratching, rustling, crunching music of the ice

it crescendos now with the conducting of the wind,
and if falls again, barely audible pianissimo
until the Composer of the song wills it to end
and the sun will shine again

and sometimes the music is dangerous
and sometimes it is enough to break your heart

more of the white stuff.

this is a beautiful tree....obviously

this is a lens for my camera-you could kinda see the reflection of the trees in it, except the trees were ORANGE!!

i was so psyched. my camera captured the sparkles in the snow!!

the view out our back door. but this picture is a little deceiving. the snow is not actually this high. we shoveled the roof and this is the pile-up. we made a tunnel through it. oh, yeah.

snow.

we've got to have at least 2 feet of it.
i don't think i've ever seen so much snow in my life.
i'm not sure if i like it or not.
it is beautiful, though.
you can't argue with that.
i'll post some pictures later.

The Saving One

vs. 1
   What mercy was revealed
   What selflessness and peace
   My fate was surely sealed
   Until He rescued me
   His pardon for my sin
   His bounty for my need
   From slavery and shame
   I am redeemed

Chorus
  And Heaven can't contain
  The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
  The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

vs. 2
No fear can hold me down
  Nor darkness steal my joy
For blood has been poured out
  The enemy destroyed
Death could not hold Him down
  The cross was not enough
  To steal away His throne
  For He is God

Chorus
  And Heaven can't contain
  The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
  The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

Bridge
Anyone who calls upon His name
  They will be saved
  They will be saved
Anyone who calls upon His name
  They will be saved
  They will be saved

I feel myself slipping
I can’t grasp what I’m gripping-
Hold me tight.
I want nothing more than to know you
I can’t seem to see you-
Fill my gaze.

Amazing Love-a drabble of 100 words

People are screaming, cursing, jeering. They cast lots for his clothes and disdain his very existence. He hangs, a man so tortured that his humanity is not recognizable. He hangs, nails beaten through the flesh of his hands and feet. He hangs, thorns as long as his fingers piercing his brow. He hangs, the splinters in the rough wood of the cross like fire to his raw back. He hangs between life and death. He gasps for breath and yells with dying strength, “It is finished!”
There is Silence.
Behold your king, who bears the sins of the world.

Silence-a drabble of 100 words

Silence. All she had ever known was silence. Silence accompanied the flashing fire truck speeding down the street, silence accompanied the airplanes flying over her house, silence accompanied the birthday parties of her friends, silence accompanied the fireworks celebrating the fourth of July, silence accompanied the dark storms that rained down in summer, silence accompanied the waves crashing on the shore, and silence accompanied the faces of her family. All she wanted to hear were the words “I love you,” for as long as she could remember she had yearned to know those words. And she was only six.
